Officials with the Iowa Department of Transportation (DOT) say there is plenty of salt left to treat roads, despite heavy snowfall.
"We use salt according to the conditions we have," said John Hart, Assistant State Maintenance Engineer for the DOT.
The Cedar Valley falls into DOT district two. Hart said across the district, plows have laid down about 17,000 tons of salt this winter. They currently have 27,000 tons left on hand for the rest of the season.
"Our effort is to always be the most effective we can be with material usage," Hart said
