Officials warn of new phone scam

Posted: Updated:
DAVENPORT (AP) -

Authorities in eastern Iowa are warning residents about a phone scam.

The Scott County Sheriff's Office says a resident was recently contacted by a suspicious caller.

The caller claimed there was a warrant out for the resident's arrest and demanded money to dismiss it.

The caller told the resident to go to a store to buy a money card to settle a $400 fee. A vigilant store clerk stopped the resident.

Authorities say no law enforcement agency would request a money card from a person in that circumstance. All fines must be paid at the court clerk's office.
