IOWA CITY (KWWL) -

An Iowa City elementary school was placed in lockdown Wednesday afternoon.

Iowa City Police officials say the Johnson County Sheriff's Office and the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation were at a home in the 1600 block of Spruce Court at around 2:49 p.m. Wednesday when a suspect fled the scene.

It happened just before 3 p.m. Officials say the suspect headed west towards Mark Twain Elementary.

An Iowa City officer was in the area of the school, and initiated a lockdown as a precaution.

The suspect is described as an adult black man and was last seen running west from the 1600 block of Spruce Court. No other description was available.

The suspect has not yet been located, and officials warn neighbors to lock their doors as a precaution.
