DUNKERTON (KWWL) - The congregation of the First Baptist Church in Dunkerton is reeling after their pastor, the Rev. Tommy Rucker, took his own life Wednesday morning.

Dunkerton Police Chief Tim Schultz says law enforcement was called to the church just before noon on Wednesday.

He said the incident did not take place inside the church.

According to his biography on the church website, Rucker became pastor of the First Baptist Church in January 2007.

A native of Kentucky, he graduated from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary of Louisville, Ken., and served as pastor of two churches from 1999 to 2006 before coming to Iowa.

Rucker married his wife Kay in 1981 and they have seven grandchildren.

Schultz says they continue to investigate the motive behind the suicide.
