WATERLOO (KWWL) - An Evansdale woman is dead after a Wednesday morning crash on Highway 21.

Alice Kathryn Hovenga, 84, of Evansdale, was pronounced dead at Covenant Medical Center after her red Oldsmobile collided with a semi.

Officers were called to the intersection just before 11 a.m. Wednesday for the accident.

Captain Tim Pillack with the Waterloo Police Department said officers determined that Hovenga turned left in an attempt to get onto the eastbound Hwy. 20 ramp in front of a northbound semi on Hwy. 21.

The driver of the semi, Michael Edwin Pecenka, 60, of Boone, was uninjured in the crash.

Highway 21 just south of Highway 20 in Waterloo briefly shut down between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Wednesday following the fatal crash.
