Waterloo man pleads guilty to buying Ecstasy online

Posted: Updated:

A Waterloo man has admitted buying Ecstasy over the internet for the purpose of selling it.

According to the United States Attorney's Office for the Northern District of Iowa, 23-year-old Adam Lawin pleaded guilty on Monday to conspiracy to distribute 3,4-methylenedioxymethamphetamine, a drug also known as MDMA or Ecstasy, sometimes known as “molly.”

In the plea agreement, Lawin admitted to buying the drug through a drug trafficking website and having it sent to friends or acquaintances.

In exchange, Lawin told the court he would pay those people with either a small amount of money or a small amount of MDMA.

Police say they found more than 1.3 kilograms of MDMA during a search of Lawin's home on April 26. They say more than 250 grams of the drug was found during earlier searches.

A sentencing date has not been set, but Lawin faces up to 20 years in prison and a $1,000,000 fine if convicted.
