UPDATE: Iowa City cat room reopened

The cat room at an Iowa City shelter has reopened following a lengthy closure due to an illness. due to a diagnosis of a cat virus that requires quarantine.

The cat room at the Iowa City Animal Care and Adoption Center closed on February 7 after a few cats were diagnosed with panleukapenia, a virus similar to canine parvo virus, which requires quarantine of the entire room, according to the City of Iowa City.

Supervisor Misha Goodman announced Monday that the illness was alleviated and the room has been reopened, meaning cats are available for adoption and new cats can be accepted into the facility.

The center is located at 4852 Sand Road SE, south of Iowa City. Hours are Monday through Friday from 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. For more information, call 319-356-5295.
