Snow, ice means golf for some

EAST DUBUQUE, Ill. (KWWL) -

Golf outings are not very common this time of year, but many took to ice golfing Saturday in East Dubuque. It's part of the annual Ice Golf Classic which raises money for St. Mark Youth Enrichment in Dubuque.

Heather Moore is the special events coordinator for St. Mark Youth Enrichment . She said this is the fourth year for the event.

"There was a group of morning golfers that really missed golfing in the winter. They decided the second Saturday in February they were going to do ice golfing," Moore said.

Moore said those golfers eventually paired up with St. Mark.

Ice golfing took place at Mid-Town Marina in East Dubuque. This year, 55 teams played ice golf on an 18-hole course constructed from snow, ice and old Christmas trees. Snow on Saturday also played a part in the game.

"I think it's probably a little bit harder to golf out there, but I think it is making it more fun," Moore said Saturday.

Officials with St. Mark say Saturday's event raised about $13,000 for St. Mark Youth Enrichment.
