Big-Time Bull Riding event kicks off in Dubuque

Posted: Updated:

The Dubuque Big-Time Bull Riding event kicked off in the Five Flags Center in Dubuque Friday night.

This is the 12th year the event as taken place in Dubuque. This year 35 bull riders from around the nation will test their luck against bulls who weight anywhere from 1,000 to 1,500 pounds. The bull riders will attempt to stay on the bull until a buzzer rings at 8 seconds. The riders will compete both Friday and Saturday in Dubuque.

Ruth Nicolaus is a member of the marketing team for the Big-Time Bull Riding event.

"There is a real rush when you watch man against beast," Nicolaus said Friday. "You know what you want those bulls to do, but they don't always get the memo and so they are going to do what they want to do. It's fun to see the two match up and hopefully the bull rider wins."

Dubuque's Big-Time Bull Riding event will continue Saturday at Five Flags.
