DUBUQUE (KWWL) -

Friday marked the beginning of the liquidation sale at the Dubuque Sears, which recently announced its plans to close in late April.

Sears spokesperson Howard Riefs said service agreements will still be valid and will not be impacted by the store's closure.

Kennedy Mall spokesperson Joe Bell said the mall's owner, Cafaro Company, has not yet found a retailer to take the space Sears will leave vacant.

"While our Real Estate Department has been discussing that space with several retailers, it typically takes a long time for such deals to come to fruition," Bell said in an e-mail to KWWL. "In the case of a department store, it is not unusual for negotiations to last 12 - 18 months or more."
