Posted: Updated:

Johnson County residents are being warned of a phone scam.

The Johnson County Sheriff's Office says people claiming to be from the Johnson County Sheriff's Office have been calling Johnson County residents and telling the victim they missed a court date and need to pay a fine and/or bond.

The scammer tells the victim they can purchase a Green Dot or prepaid card.

The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office says they would never ask for payment over the phone, via wire transfer, or prepaid card.

If you feel you have been a victim of this scam, call the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office directly, not the number the caller gives you. The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office phone number is (319) 356-6020.
