UPDATE: Meskwaki man charged with parents' murder

TAMA COUNTY (KWWL) - Gordon Lasley, Jr. has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder.

He is accused of killing his parents, Gordon Lasley Sr. and Kim Johnson Lasley, according to Tama County Attorney Brent Heeren.

Lasley, Jr., is currently in custody, and made his initial appearance before a judge Thursday afternoon in Tama County.

Authorities have released the name of a man taken into custody after the death of a Meskwaki Settlement couple Wednesday night.

Gordon Lasley, Jr., was taken into custody Thursday, the Tama County Sheriff's Office confirmed.

It was unclear whether Lasley Jr. has been charged in the death of Gordon Lasley Sr. or Kim Lasley.

The Sac and Fox Tribe has released the names of a husband and wife found dead in their home on the Meskwaki Settlement.

Meskwaki Nation Police officers were called to the home of Gordon Lasley, Sr. and Kim Lasley at around 11 p.m. Wednesday night. Officers say the couple died of an apparent homicide.

As a result of an investigation by the Iowa Department of Criminal Investigation, Tama County Sheriff's Department, Tama Police Department, Toledo Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigations, a male subject was taken into custody and is in the Tama County Jail. No charges have been filed yet.

"The Sac and Fox Tribe is a very close knit community and we are all shocked and saddened by this," Judith Bender, Tribal Chairwoman, said in a written statement. "Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family and all of those who are affected by this horrific event."

The Department of Criminal Investigation and the FBI are investigating a double homicide on the Meskwaki settlement in Tama County, KWWL and has confirmed.

DCI agent Mike Motsinger told KWWL they were called to the scene early this morning.

Ram Dhanwada, executive director of the Sac and Fox Tribe of the Mississippi and Iowa received a call about the incident Wednesday night around 11 o'clock.

Motsinger said the Chief of the Meskwaki Tribal Council may be available later to discuss the incident.

Tama county authorities are investigating an incident on the Meskwaki settlement.

Multiple police units were called to a house in the 600 block of Meskwaki Road late Wednesday night.

The Meskwaki Police Department hasn't released much information about what happened. The Tama Co. Sheriff's Office told KWWL's Ally Crutcher, the Meskwaki Nation Settlement Tribal Council will hold a meeting to discuss what happened.
