La Porte City man accused of extorting woman he met on Facebook

Posted: Updated:

A La Porte City man is facing extortion charges after police say he took nude pictures and explicit video of a woman he met on Facebook.

Waterloo police say they were contacted by the Bettendorf Police Department after receiving a report from a 19-year-old woman who claimed she was being extorted for sex and money.

The victim said she was contacted by a man named Lucas Phillips in late September or early October of 2013. She said Phillips claimed to work for a modeling agency.

The victim told police that she met the suspect in Cedar Rapids where he took nude photos of her and video taped them having consensual sex, which she did not know about at the time.

She said that Phillips contacted her later and said that if she didn't have sex with him and pay him money, he would release the nude photos and sex video on the internet.

She told police that she traveled to Waterloo on December 23, 2013, paid Phillips money and had sex with him because of the threats he made.

Police say they identified Phillips as actually being 28-year-old Bradley Richard Williams of La Porte City.

Williams was arrested on Tuesday with the help of the Cedar Rapids Police Department. He was charged with extortion and taken to the Black Hawk County Jail.

Police ask that anyone who has had similar contact with or “Lucas Phillips” or Bradley Richard Williams, or has other information, contact their local law enforcement agency.

Police are not releasing a photograph of Williams at this time.
