CVS to stop selling cigarettes

Posted: Updated:

One of the country's largest pharmacies announced Wednesday morning they will stop selling tobacco products in its stores, reports NBC News.

CVS Caremark announced they will end sales on October first, saying selling the cigarettes along with medicine undermines the company's mission to promote good health.

The chain is expected to lose about two billion dollars in revenues annually from sales of tobacco in its 7,600 stores across the country.

President Obama came out to say he applauds the move, and hopes it begins a national campaign to help millions of Americans to stop smoking.

18 percent of Americans, about 42 million people, are smokers.
