Hawks fall to Ohio State 78-69

IOWA CITY (KWWL) -

The Hawkeyes were clearly a favorite playing on their home floor tonight, but the question was which Ohio State team would show up, the one that lost to Penn State and Nebraska, or the one that beat Wisconsin in Madison?

Hawkeyes going after the regular season sweep -- but the Buckeyes would get after them early -- LaQuiton Ross

with the feed to Amir Williams for the hammer and a quick 2 point edge --

and Aaron Craft -- the least popular man in the building would ring up a triple -- 14 in the first for Craft -- 26, 17 Buckeyes --

but Iowa finished the half strong -- Zach McCabe from the arc gets Carver Hawkeye going -- Hawks back within 4 --

them -- Mike Gesell hard to the hole -- count the bucket -- Gesell makes it a one point game --

and it got physical -- the scrum at half court -- Iowa comes out of it with the ball -- ahead to Aaron White -- Iowa finished the half on a 16, 5 run to lead by 2 at the break --

Second half -- Buckeyes came out strong again -- after the Craft steal -- he'd throw the rainbow to Shannon Scott for the 2 -- 58, 49 Buckeyes

But Iowa would thin the gap -- Gesell drives for 2 -- he led Iowa with 16, they were within 7 --

and then Anthony Clemmons for 2 more -- the Hawks got it as close as 4 -- but that would be it --

On the other end -- Craft gets the bucket and the foul -- he led everyone with 17 --

Ohio State gets out of Iowa City with a 76, 69 win --

We weren't defending at all, so you're looking at it saying if I stay in this, they're going to keep getting good shots, so we put pressure on the ball and get over. It's easy to say now that we should've played more zone because the man didn't work, but I really thought man would be better.

Our one on one defense wasn't what it needed to be tonight. The coaches always preach in practice guard your yard where you keep your man in front of you. A lot of time late in the clock we just let guys take us and give up easy dump downs to the big or give up scoring.

But there were more than just defensive problems. Iowa shot 3 of 20 from the 3 point line, and that's something that's got to get better with 10th ranked Michigan coming here Saturday.
