SportAbility is a step closer to replacing their wheelchairs

Posted: Updated:

SportAbility Iowa  held another fundraiser Saturday to help replace its stolen wheelchairs.

The group held a basketball game fundraiser at Linn-Mar High School's gym in Marion.

It featured other wheelchair basketball teams, firefighters, police officers, and others playing against the team in sports chairs.

Donations were collected to help pay for a new chairs.

"A lot of our guys haven't played for a couple months, so we really wanted to give them the opportunity to do that," said Jayden Barrett, SportAbility of Iowa director. "Adaptive Sports Iowa, an organization really similar to us out in Des Moines, lent us these 12 chairs so we can do the tournament."

Barrett says the group is close to the halfway mark of reaching their goal.

An organization in San Diego, California is donating four brand new chairs to SportAbility.
