Police: Cedar Falls woman lied about stolen car for insurance

Posted: Updated:
CEDAR FALLS (KWWL) - A Cedar Falls woman was arrested this week after police say she pretended her vehicle was stolen in order to collect the insurance money.

Michaela Marie Kotz, 44, of Cedar Falls, was arrested this week and charged with insurance fraud, a felony, and filing a false police report, according to the Cedar Falls Police Department.

Police say Kotz told police on July 6 that her white 2001 Chevrolet Tracker had been stolen from her home.

Kotz later received a payment of more than $4,800 from Liberty Mutual Insurance.

The Mitchell County Sheriff's Department later discovered the vehicle was being stored at a home in St. Ansgar, according to police.
