UPDATE: Iowa City police identify assault suspect

IOWA CITY (KWWL) -

The Iowa City Police Department has identified a man they say assaulted a woman in a stairwell.

The victim told police she was assaulted in the stairwell of the Plaza Towers at 201 S. Linn Street at around 3:15 p.m. on Jan. 24.

She says a man grabbed her, but ran off when she yelled.

Police have identified the man as 26-year-old Justin Ryan Whitehurst of Iowa City. He has been charged with simple assault.

The Iowa City Police Police Department would like to thank the public for helping them identify Whitehurst.
