TIPTON (KWWL) -
Shows can go on at the historic Hardacre Theater in Tipton. The Hardacre Theater Preservation Association (HTPA) has raised enough money to buy the theater.
In December the not-for-profit began a fundraising campaign on the website Indiegogo with the goal of raising $96,100 to buy the theater. Wednesday the association announced it has raised $114, 000.
Now the group is working to renovate the theater. They plan to upgrade the facility to digital equipment. When the theater closed in August 2013, it was still running 35 millimeter film. The group also plans to renovate the backstage areas so that performance groups can use the space. They'll also make sure the building is ADA compliant.
The Hardacre Theater opened in 1916 and the association hopes to re-open it by 2016, in time to celebrate the theater's 100th anniversary.
