Dubuque Justice League hosts human trafficking event

The Dubuque Justice League held a trafficking-in-person identification training event in Dubuque Saturday. Human trafficking is the trafficking of humans as modern-day slavery, involving victims being forced, defrauded, or coerced into sexually exploitation.

The eight hour training session included learning about the business model of human trafficking and how it operates, along with information about current laws about human trafficking. The training session also featured information about how to identify trafficking locations as well as people who are being trafficked.

Casey Klein is a member of the Dubuque Justice League.

"It does exists right here in the Tri-State area, in Dubuque, Iowa, and certainly in Marion. We also have them in larger venues such as Chicago. We do have events that have occurred and we need to address them."

The Dubuque Justice League will be hosting another event about human trafficking February 28.
