ARLINGTON (KWWL) - Friends of the family who arrived on scene Friday told KWWL a 4-year-old boy, a 1-year-old girl and their mother are among those who died in an Arlington house fire Friday morning.

Those friends also told KWWL their mother's boyfriend also lived at the residence and was killed in the fire. They say another adult male was the fifth fire victim.

KWWL is not releasing any names given by those on scene until they can be corroborated by authorities.

PREVIOUS STORY:

At least five people were killed in an overnight house fire a few miles from Arlington, according to the Fayette County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies received a call of a house fire at 5094 F Ave., approximately four miles southwest of Arlington, at around 3:35 a.m. Friday.

Arlington Fire, Aurora Fire and Stanley Fire were dispatched to the scene and found the house engulfed in flame.

At least five fatalities have been reported.

The Fayette County Sheriff Fire Investigator, the Iowa State Fire Marshal and the Iowa Department of Criminal Investigation were investigating Friday morning.

Paul Seedorff, Arlington Fire Chief, said crews could see flames about a mile and a half away as they were arriving on scene.

He said crews were still fighting flames and smoke from the house as of mid-morning Friday.

"We're doing the best we can," Seedorff said.

As crews arrived, there were indications that people were inside, but conditions were such that crews were unable to immediately enter the residence.

The roof was already gone by the time crews arrived on scene.

Seedorff said he wasn't sure who called the fire in.

DCI is typically involved when a fire involves fatalities, officials said.

Eric Page and Amie Steffeneicher contributed to this report.
