A Vinton man was officially charged with the murder of a 19-year-old Indiana woman after investigators with a nationally-televised cold-case show helped officials work on the 15-year-old case.

Clinton Bryan Mackey, 33, formerly of West Terre Haute, Ind., but living in Vinton, was extradited to Indiana on Thursday and formally charged with murder Friday, the Vigo County (Indiana) Sheriff's Office said Friday.

Mackey is charged in the brutal killing of Erika Case, 19, whose body was found with multiple stab wounds to the chest, face and neck on Sept. 7, 1998.

Officials say they have no reason to believe any other person was involved in the murder.

Vigo County Sheriff Detective Captain John Moats reopened Case's case about six months ago with the help of investigators from TNT's "Cold Justice."

Investigators re-examined evidence and re-interviewed more than 30 people, including Mackey in November.

Early this week, Mackey contacted investigators and confessed to the crime, according to officials.

He is currently being held in the Vigo County Jail.

A Vinton man is back in Indiana to face charges in connection with the brutal slaying of a young Indiana woman in 1998.

Clinton Bryan Mackey, 33, currently living in Vinton, was in Benton County District Court on Thursday for an extradition hearing in connection with a 1998 West Terre Haute, Ind., homicide.

Benton County Sheriff Randy Forsyth says Mackey was arrested on the Indiana warrant Wednesday morning after turning himself in late Tuesday afternoon.

Mackey waived extradition on Thursday and was taken back to Vigo County Indiana where he appeared in court on Friday morning.

Mackey's arrest involves the murder of Erika Case, 19, who had been house sitting at a family friend's home in rural West Terre Haute.

Case was last seen alive Sept. 6, 1998, at the residence with two acquaintances.

On the morning of Sept. 7, Case's sister arrived at the home to find the body of Case. She had been stabbed multiple times in the chest, neck and face, according to WTWO-TV.

Forsyth says Mackey had been a person of interest in the case from the beginning.

The Benton County Sheriff’s Office and Vinton Police Department found and re-interviewed Mackey in November of 2013 for Vigo County authorities.
