Dubuque Committee seeks input about Fracking

Posted: Updated:

Some braved the cold weather Thursday evening to talk about a controversial method of extracting natural gas from the ground called hydraulic fracturing, or fracking.

On Thursday evening Dubuque's Environmental Stewardship Advisory Committee hosted a public input meeting about fracking. The committee is currently working on a draft report about hydraulic fracturing for the Dubuque City Council fiscal year 2015 budget process.

During the fiscal year 2015 budget process, the Dubuque City Council will consider investing in compressed natural gas fueled vehicles for the cities public works department. Currently, Dubuque has one public works vehicle that runs on compressed natural gas or CNG.

The Environmental Stewardship Advisory Commission will host another public input meeting about fracking Friday at noon in the Carnegie- Stout Public Library.
