CEDAR FALLS (KWWL) - A bar known for bringing in larger national acts and promoting local talent alike will be closing this spring.

The Hub, located at 406 Main St. in Cedar Falls, will close in mid-May, according to its owner, Marcus Kjeldsen.

Kjeldsen made the announcement on The Hub's website Tuesday after rumors began swirling on social media.

He cited spending more time with his family as the reason for the club's closure.

"The last 7 years have been an incredible experience," Kjeldsen wrote. "That is why this was such a difficult decision to make."

Kjeldsen took over the former 4th and Main, itself a live music destination. He opened The Hub's doors Feb. 8, 2007.

The venue includes two bars as well as a large stage and smaller acoustic stage. It hosts bands nearly every night of the week, and Kjeldsen said they will continue to host bands through May.

One of the local groups that frequently plays at The Hub, Checker and the Bluetones, posted a tribute to The Hub on Facebook Tuesday morning.

"(T)he best gigs of my life have been partying with you at the HuB," the group wrote on their Facebook page. "It has been an institution of music, local bands and touring. This is all due to Marcus Kjeldsen, owner. He has been a straight up person to deal with all these years while providing our area with some of the finest entertainment."

In addition to thanking the bands, Kjeldsen also thanked his staff, family and original business partners in his statement.

"I am saddened that in 4 months it will be time to say goodbye to The Hub," he wrote. "I will cherish so many memories. I am also excited for the road ahead. I am thrilled to be able to spend more time with my family."
