WATERLOO (KWWL) - Less than a year after he was hired, the head football coach for a Waterloo high school announced he would resign.

Kevin Meyer, who has coached football at Waterloo East High School since March of 2013, resigned Tuesday to accept "a position in another state based on family needs," according to Waterloo Schools.

Meyer will continue on at East through the end of the school year, the district said.

Meyer failed to lead the Trojans to a single win in his only season at East High.

"We believe Kevin began the rebuilding process with a very young team, and see a tremendous step forward with our 60+ freshmen and sophomores," said Al Pace, East High's athletic director, in a statement Tuesday afternoon. "We offer nothing but the best to Coach Meyer and his family as they finish out the year at East High and transition into another part of their life together."

Meyer was previously head football coach at a school in Gallatin, Missouri. Before that, he coached football in Fremont, Neb., from 1994 to 2010.

The Trojans were 0-9 this year.
