LINN COUNTY (KWWL) -
A semi pulling a livestock trailer full of hogs overturned in Linn County, killing several hogs and shutting down a highway ramp Monday.
Benjamin Hogan, 26, of Monticello, was cited for failure to maintain control and no insurance after a freightliner tractor he was driving struck a guard rail and overturned onto its side on the Highway 13 southbound exit ramp to Highway 30 on Monday morning.
The crash happened just before 10 a.m. Monday, according to the Linn County Sheriff's Office.
Hogan had been pulling a livestock trailer containing 178 hogs. Several were killed or injured in the crash, according to officials.
The Highway 13 southbound ramp to Highway 30 remains closed as Department of Transportation crews repair the damaged guard railings and crews remove the hogs from the trailer, according to the sheriff's office.
