On the eve of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, hundreds gathered to celebrate his life.
A night filled with food and friends was also spent remembering the dreams Martin Luther King Jr. made a reality.
The annual Martin Luther King Jr. banquet took place at the Electric Park Ballroom in Waterloo Sunday night.
The night's theme was "Preserving the Past, Celebrating the Future."
"A lot of people have made a lot of sacrifices for us to have the opportunities we all have today, regardless if we're male, female, black, white, brown, and we just want to celebrate that and all that they've done and then also to make sure that we remember there's still a lot of work to do within our community," said co-organizer Quentin Hart.
All proceeds from the event went towards Hawkeye Community College scholarships, The Martin Luther King Junior Center and The African American Heritage League.
