Mechanics cash in on winter weather

Posted: Updated:
WATERLOO (KWWL) -

The cold weather has mechanics busy.

"We love winter," said owner of Leer's Cycle Center Shannon Rousselow.

"The winter is awesome. We call it our white gold," he said.

Rousselow said snowmobile deals and repairs make up more than 25% of sales at Leer's Cycle Center.

He said his business depends heavily on snow.

"When we hear that there's snow, it's definitely a bonus because it gets the customer just that much more motivated," he said.

According to Rousselow, last month his employees sold and delivered more than 35 snowmobiles.

"It's been outstanding," he said.

Meanwhile, Jim Lind's Service Shop in Waterloo is also staying busy because of the cold weather.

"Winter is tough on all of us, and we get tired after awhile, too, because we all work some extra hours to keep up with the increased demand of cold weather business," said Lind.

He said his shop has been swamped since early December.

Lind said his mechanics have dealt with all kinds of winter problems in vehicles, from dead batteries to burst pipes and flat tires.

"We've had extreme temperatures and a vehicle gets some age and some miles on it...the cold weather tips it over the edge," he said.
