WATERLOO (KWWL) -
Officials with Mediacom confirmed thousands of customers were without internet and phone service across the state for the majority of the day on Saturday.
Mediacom Communications Director Phyllis Peters said what started out as a small outage at approximately 8:30 Saturday morning, expanded and impacted customers in Waterloo, Cedar Rapids, Dubuque, Iowa City, and Clinton, as well as customers in parts of Missouri.
"It's hard to say the geography," she said.
Peters would not provide an exact number of outages, stating that a number would not be relevant because outages were widespread.
She said the problem centers around certain equipment not recognizing IP data.
When asked about whether people would be eligible for credits for the interruption of service, Peters said, "We work with our customers on an individual basis."
