UPDATE: Several crashes stall I-80 traffic in Iowa City

Posted: Updated:
IOWA CITY (KWWL) -

Drivers on Interstate 80 saw significant delays Saturday after several weather-related crashes on the highway.  One of those crashes injured a trooper with the Iowa State Patrol.  Troopers say snow and blowing snow around 8:30 a.m. created treacherous conditions.  They say the conditions caused several vehicles to leave the roadway and go into the ditch.  That led to a chain reaction of collisions, with up to 30 collisions or vehicles in the ditch.  Eastbound traffic was stalled between Dubuque Street and the Herbert Hoover Highway for several hours as both lanes of the highway were blocked.  One lane reopened to traffic around Noon.  Officials are urging people to be prepared for delays or seek an alternate route.
