9-year-old hopes to someday compete in Winter Olympics

One eastern Iowa nine-year-old hopes one day he will be in the Winter Olympics. Korey Frank began snowboarding when he was just three-years-old after his father introduced him to the sport.

"My dad was a skier and he thought it would be cool if I could start snowboarding," Korey Frank said Friday afternoon. "So he got me a snowboard and I used to snowboard in our backyard."

Brian Frank is Korey's father. He said he noticed how well his son was skateboarding and though he should try snowboarding during the winter months.

"After a couple of hours of going on the bunny hill, he was going on the big hill and he just left me behind to learn on my own." Brian Frank said.

When Korey was five-years-old he began entering local competitions. He is currently competing in a series at Sundown Mountain in Dubuque. His father said he's already done two events for that series placing in both first and second place.

"It's just so exciting to watch him," Brian Frank said. "Seeing him out on those hills and hitting rails and boxes. It's cool to see him progress on it and win events."

Korey said one day he hopes to be in the Winter Olympics just like snowboarder, Shaun White.

"I hope to go to the Olympics and do halfpipe and slope-style." Korey Frank went onto say. "I have to do a lot more work. I have to concentrate on what my coaches tell me to do and how to land and stuff."

Korey Frank said he snowboards at Sundown Mountain in Dubuque at least 4 times a week. He said his next competition will take place on January 26th in Wisconsin.
