Posted: Updated:

Two cats died after fire broke out in an attached garage at home in Marion Thursday morning.

District Chief Jason Hansen says Marion firefighters were called to 3501 28th Avenue at around 11:54 a.m. after it was reported that a vehicle was on fire inside an attached garage.

Crews arrived to find smoke throughout the house and flames coming from the garage. Hansen says the fire was under control by 12:05 p.m.

The homeowners got out before fire crews arrived and no firefighters were injured.

Hansen says the two cats died from smoke inhalation.

The fire heavily damaged the garage and two vehicles. The house received moderate smoke damage.

The fire remains under investigation, but they believe started in one of the vehicles.
