A Rockford doctor's medical license has been temporarily suspended after multiple allegations of inappropriate sexual misconduct with elderly patients.
Charles Dehaan, M.D. worked with House Calls of Rockford on Walton Street. He is accused of engaging in sexually inappropriate conduct with multiple patients during home visits, including having sex with at least one patient.
The Rockford Police Department received several reports from patients and/or administrators at several senior residential facilities of misconduct by Dehaan between 2009 and 2013. Some of the accusations against Dehaan include:
Rubbing the breasts and upper thighs of a 70-year-old resident at Rockford Supportive Living in May 2011, despite the patient telling him "no," and only stopping when the patient began to cry.
Rubbing the legs and breasts and grabbing the buttocks of a 69-year-old patient at Heritage Woods of Rockford on several occasions between 2010 and 2011. The patient also said Dehaan exposed himself to her on at least one occasion.
Fondling the breasts and laying on top of an 81-year-old patient at Heritage Woods of Rockford.
Groping the breasts and buttocks of an elderly patient's caregiver.
Asking a 55-year-old disabled resident at an assisted living facility to put on a bikini and do the dishes during a home care visit.
Telling a patient she was beautiful, placing his hands on her inner thighs, and making moaning noises while hugging the patient during an appointment the patient brought her two daughters to.
Police also received information that Dehaan had sex with at least one patient, who has a history of a mental disorder. During an interview with investigators, the patient told them she engaged in sex with Dehaan two to three times a month for about six months while Dehaan prescribed her controlled substances like Ritalin and Norco.
Dehaan is also accused of issuing multiple prescriptions for Vicodin, more than 1,000 tablets, to a patient without establishing a physician/patient relationship and not conducting appropriate evaluations or examinations of the patient.
Dehaan was arrested on January 14, 2014 on an outstanding warrant issued on September 13, 2013 for contempt of court for not paying court-ordered fines and/or fees from his arrest for driving on a suspended/revoked license.
Susan Hofer with the State of Illinois says officials believe there may be other occurrences related to Dehaan's misconduct.
The Medical Disciplinary Board of the Department of Financial and Professional Regulation of the State of Illinois will hold a hearing on the charges against Dehaan on January 28.
