Winter storm brings strong winds, headaches for all

WATERLOO (KWWL) -

A winter storm system moving through the Midwest caused some strong wind gusts beginning early Tuesday morning causing headaches for many.

"Atrocious," said Rita Negues in Waterloo.

"Not fun," said Jimmy Jewell, UPS driver.

"Sucks," said Alvin Musselman, semi-truck driver.

All that may be true, but you'd still find flags flying high Tuesday.

For Negues and dog, despite the windy weather,  they had to get their daily walk in.

"And that's done twice a day whether we like it or not," said Negus.

Negues says they usually walk six blocks, but Tuesday's walk was cut little short.

"Oh! This wind will blow us away. I'm worried about, sometimes I worry about his getting too cold because he doesn't have a coat," said Negus.

You could catch Jimmy Jewell with UPS hustling from door to door dropping off packages, but in this weather it's important to slow down.

"I mean with the ice, it's just, you can't really go fast because you just slide all over the place and the wind just makes this big truck hard to maneuver," said Jewell.

With wind gusts more than 40 miles an hour in the Cedar Valley driving was even a challenge, especially for truck drivers.

Alvin Musselman says no matter the weather, he has a job to do and places to be. He does say though this wind and ice can certainly be dangerous.

"Making corners, curves, you can flip over easily. Like now it's kind of spotty icy. Easily can go into the ditch," said Mussleman.
