Two Waterloo men were arrested Sunday after a traffic stop uncovered a rifle.

Sergeant Matt McGeough says officers from the Violent Crime Apprehension Team stopped a vehicle in the 100 block of Reber Street on Sunday for an equipment violation.

After making contact with the two men inside, 19-year-old Elliott Roos and 21-year-old Matthew McAhren, McGeough say officers found a .22 caliber rifle and ammunition.

McGeough says Roos became combative during the stop and assaulted an officer and McAhren threatened to shoot officers.

Roos is charged with possession of a firearm as a felon, interference with official acts with a firearm, carrying weapons, operating while intoxicated, interference with official acts and assault on a peace officer.

McAhren is charged with possession of a firearm as a felon, interference with official acts with a firearm, carrying weapons, two counts of first degree harassment and one count of second degree harassment.

Both men were booked into the Black Hawk County Jail.
