Sunday's winter warmth is picture perfect

Sunday's slight rise in temperatures gave eastern Iowans a venture outside and for some it was picture perfect.

John Moyer is an amateur photographer in Iowa City and says the weather is the best he's seen in a while.

"This is the best I've seen it in days here," says Moyer. "I was looking for a hobby, I liked taking a picture of [geese] and it got me outdoors."

He's just one of many across the area taking full advantage of the weather.

City Park had a lot of people walking and jogging, enjoying all things outdoors

For some it was their first time outside.

2-month-old Joshua has never been outdoors, his mom and dad thought it would be the perfect weather to take some family photos.

"This is the first time he's been outside since the cold winter," said dad Zhao Sun. "Last winter was pretty cold, but this winter it's definitely worse."

For others, Sunday was to shed off a few of those lingering holiday pounds.

With the temperatures hitting close to 40 degrees it was time to go for a run.

"You know you just start putting on the pounds when you get older, so that's motivation for me to get out when I can," said Tim Hazen. "I think a day like today is the secret to surviving a winter in Iowa; you've got to get out when you can."

While we're only in January and there is still some snow on the ground a walk in the park, a walk for the dog or just talking some family photos in winter warmth is not enough.

"Just ready for spring," said Mike Rhinehart. The kids wanted to come out and play and get on the play ground. They like to come out and they like to watch the eagles on the river and squirrels and everything else and enjoy the nice weather."
