10,000 Iowans still waiting for healthcare

Posted: Updated:
WATERLOO (KWWL) - According to state officials, about 10,000 Iowans are still waiting for a health insurance plan.

Amy Lorentzen McCoy, spokeswoman for the Iowa Department of Human Services (DHS), said those Iowans who are waiting applied for a policy online at www.healthcare.gov.

She said the problem with the federal applications is that officials with www.healthcare.gov aren't sending over enough information to get approved through Iowa's system.

She said instead officials are sending over "flat files" that do not have adequate information to approve an applicant under a healthcare plan.

State officials encourage Iowans who applied at www.healthcare.gov to re-apply at the state level online at www.dhsservices.iowa.gov or by calling 1-855-889-7985.

In a statement, DHS Director Charles Palmer said, "We are pleased with how the state’s eligibility resources are operating, and about 60,000 Iowans are already signed up for coverage under the bipartisan-approved Iowa Health and Wellness Plan. We continue to help overcome delays at HealthCare.gov, and to assist Iowans so they may have certainty with their health coverage going forward.”
