CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -
People got the ball rolling for a good cause Wednesday.
Big Brothers Big Sisters held its national Bowl for Kids' Sake campaign kickoff in Cedar Rapids, the organization's signature fundraiser.
Money raised from the event helps provide the mentor matching Big Brothers Big Sisters is known for.
"Getting together, learning how to bake or doing homework together," said Kathy Beardsworth, Big Brothers Big Sisters. "I would say that we hear from our 'littles' is that they enjoy just having someone to talk to."
The kickoff was held in Cedar Rapids because the local chapter there raised more than $379,000 from the fundraiser last year, the sixth-highest amount in the nation.
