Meals on Wheels delivery stopped Monday, but seniors still ate

Posted: Updated:
CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) - Many Meals on Wheels programs across Iowa canceled deliveries Monday due to the cold weather.

Programs plan for days like this in advance -- making sure seniors have frozen meals to eat.

Deliveries also serve as a wellness check.

Employees with Horizons, the Meals on Wheels provider in Cedar Rapids, made phone calls to make sure seniors were OK today.

"If we needed to, we could go out and we could take food to someone," said Dianna Young, Meals on Wheels Director. "We would call and follow-up and get them any kind of emergency help that they needed."

Horizons volunteers prepared Monday's meal and froze it. It will be delivered to seniors to replace the frozen meal they ate.
