CEDAR FALLS (KWWL) -

Authorities have arrested 27-year-old Zach Church of Parkersburg, who's been hospitalized since being shot by a Cedar Falls police officer early Christmas morning.

Church was released from the hospital Monday and taken to the Black Hawk County jail.

According to criminal complaints, Church was sleeping in his car at the intersection of 2nd Street and Hudson Street in Cedar Falls, and was woken by Cedar Falls Officer Bob Anderson.  Anderson smelled marijuana and alcohol and was taking Church to his squad car when an altercation happen.  The complaints Officer Anderson used his gun to shoot Church after he repeatedly struck the officer in the face and head, hitting him to the ground.

The complaints also say Church was carrying loose marijuana, individually packaged baggies of marijuana, a digital scale, and $600 cash.

Church was arrested on two warrants for Assault Against a Peace Officer and Possession of Marijuana with Intent to Deliver , both class D felonies.  Church was taken to the Black Hawk County Jail on $45,000 bond.  Friends say Church has bonded out of jail and is now home.

The Division of Criminal Investigation is looking into the use of lethal force by Officer Anderson, and results will be forwarded to the Black Hawk County Attorney’s Office for review.
