Longtime Dubuque volunteer and businessman dies

Arnie Honkamp died Friday at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. He was 74 years old.

That's according to KWWL coverage partner the Telegraph Herald Newspaper.

Honkamp played a pivotal role in bringing the Dubuque Greyhound Park to fruition and in retaining commercial airline service. According to the Telegraph Herald, Honkamp served on local and state boards, ranging from the Holy Family Catholic Schools Board to the State Flood Mitigation Board.

He was a prominent Dubuque businessman, having been a founding partner of Honkamp Krueger & Co., P.C., according to the Telegraph Herald, and helping establish to affiliate companies Honkamp Krueger Financial Services Inc. and HK Payroll Services Inc.

Twice, Honkamp was awarded the Telegraph Herald's prestigious First Citizen Award. Once was for his personal achievements and the second time was as a member of the Dubuque Racing Association.
