Hawkeye fans flock to bars, restaurants to watch Outback Bowl

CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) - As the Hawkeyes kicked off in Tampa, fans of all ages were watching the Outback Bowl at Parlor City Pub & Eatery.

"I like to get out to watch the game," said Chad Cooper, Cedar Rapids. "It's a little more fun than staying at home and watching it and obviously with it being New Years Day I like to get out and watch it and plus, I kind of like the atmosphere of being around people when you're watching the game, too."

The restaurant is used to seeing a big crowd during the lunch hour. The big difference Wednesday was an increase in alcohol sales. With so many people having New Year's Day off, the restaurant opened early and served breakfast.

"We had quite a few people coming in," said Patti Allen, Waitress. "With the storm, I was kind of surprised, but yeah a lot of people did stop in."

Across Cedar Rapids, the Fieldhouse on Blairs Ferry Road also opened early. "The Home of Iowa Sports" was covered in black and gold as customers cheered.

"It's pretty crazy," said Tanya Musser, Head Host.  "The crowd gets rowdy sometimes."

There, the staff was glad to see a rowdy crowd spending money. It's been slow during the holiday season. But with the Hawks back on TV, the seats were full once again.

While the game didn't end the way these fans would have hoped, everyone was just glad to see the Hawks make it to a bowl game again.
