Firefighters spend New Year's Eve putting out fire in Fayette

Posted: Updated:
FAYETTE (KWWL) - According to Fayette Fire Chief Jason Rohde, a fire started at 109 E. Water Street in Fayette at about 9:15 Tuesday night.

He said the building houses the Fayette County Food Pantry on the first floor and apartments on the second floor.

Rohde said the apartments are occupied by college students who were not home at the time of the fire.

He said more than a dozen firefighters from Fayette and nearby Maynard extinguished the fire by 1:00 a.m. on Wednesday.

"It was a typical winter fire walking through snow and dealing with ice," said Rohde.

Rohde would not confirm where or how the fire started.

He said the building is still there, but it's up to the insurance company to determine the amount of damage.
