AMES (KWWL) -

Iowa State opened up a big first half lead and rode it to the end to knock off Northern Illinois 99-63 on Tuesday night.  The victory wrapped up a perfect non-conference schedule at 12-0.

The Cyclones played inspired on the day legendary coach Johnny Orr passed away.  Orr's teams were known for being high scoring and high tempo, and that's how Iowa State looked against NIU.

Deandre Kane notched a double-double with 16 points and 2 rebounds.  Naz Long and Melvin Ejim led the Cyclones in scoring with 17 apiece.

Iowa State set a season high for first half points cruising to a 55-34 lead and never looked back in the second half.

At 12-0, the Cyclones continue to build on the best start in school history.
