DUBUQUE (KWWL) -

The warm winter weather Friday lead to more business for at least one business in Dubuque. Thousands of people made their way to Sundown Mountain Ski Resort in Dubuque Friday afternoon. Lauren McKay lives in Arizona. She was in town for the holidays to visit her family when the family decided to go skiing.

"It's great weather for an Arizonian that is for sure." McKay said laughing Friday afternoon.

Mark Dietz is the general manager of Sundown Mountain Ski Resort. He said the holidays are typically a busy time for the ski resort.

"A lot of people are in town visiting friends, neighbors and family," he said. "That's what is nice about the Christmas holiday is that it is very family oriented."

Dietz said during the holiday season many people head to the slopes as a family to have some fun.

"Our family is all together and we are having a great time," Lauren McKay said. "We are even learning some special skills which is really good."

Despite the usual colder weather, Mark Dietz said Sundown Mountain is having a very good season thus far. He said Friday and Saturday's warmer weather will help that good season.

"When it is five below zero and the wind is blowing lets face it, it is pretty tough out there for most people," Deitz said about skiing. "When the weather gets up into the 20's and 30's it's just perfect."

Dietz said Friday afternoon despite fixing a couple of warn down areas Sundown Mountain Ski Resort has not made snow for roughly a week.
