Churchgoers celebrate Christmas Eve

Posted: Updated:

On Christmas Eve, some churchgoers are remembering the reason for the season.

Cedar Valley Community Church had a candlelight service Tuesday in Waterloo

Organizers said the holiday is about more than the shopping and presents -- it's about being with family.

"We want to make sure that our congregation remembers focus on the true meaning, the great gift of Christmas, which is the free gift of Christ," said Mark Stuenkel with Cedar Valley Community Church.

Some younger churchgoers agreed. 12-year-old Isaac Yoder played his violin in the service.

"Presents and Christmas trees are nice, too, but the main reason is because Jesus died, " Yoder said. "We're celebrating how he came into the earth so that he could die for us."

Apart from Christmas services....Stuenkel said they're always welcoming new people.
