City of Robins triples in 20 years, creates business incentive

ROBINS (KWWL) - One growing eastern Iowa town is now looking to expand even further to help pay the bills.

The population of Robins has more than tripled over the past two decades. Keeping up city amenities and services like parks and snow removal for all those people is expensive.

The city created the Robins Economic Development Initiative (REDI) to draw new businesses in town to help increase the city's tax base. The group is a not-for-profit using seed money from the city.

"It could be a restaurant in the middle of town, it could be light industrial on the edge of town," said Greg Ervin, REDI Vice Chair. "There's a place and a fit for just about any business."

Right now the REDI Board of Directors is seeking development proposals. The deadline is Feb. 3.

The board is also looking for several consulting services for the initiative.
