IOWA CITY (AP) -

Two Iowa scientists are among 102 people across the country honored as recipients of the Presidential Early Career Awards for Scientists and Engineers.

The White House released the list of recipients Monday, calling the award the highest honor bestowed by the U.S. government on science and engineering professionals in the early stages of their independent research careers.

The Iowa-based recipients are Steven Cannon, of Iowa State University, and Randall McEntaffer, of the University of Iowa.

Cannon's research is funded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture and McEntaffer's research is funded through NASA.

The winners will be honored at a Washington ceremony next year.
