ISU drops George Mason 79-67 in Hawaii


Iowa State opened the Diamondhead Classic in Honolulu by taking down George Mason 79-67 on Sunday.

Georges Niang led the way with 22 points, while Dustin Hogue chipped in 17 in the Cyclone victory.

George Mason's Bryon Allen hit a jumper with just over 6 minutes left to pull the Patriots within 5 at 56-51.  The Cyclones countered with a 12-2 run, capped by a Niang 3-pointer for a 15 point lead to seal the deal.

Iowa State (9-0) will face Akron on Monday in the second game of the tournament.  The Zips defeated Oregon State 83-71.
