Eastern Iowa cafe serves its last meal

Posted: Updated:
MT. VERNON (KWWL) - A well-known cafe in Mount Vernon served its last meal Saturday.

The Lincoln Cafe in Mount Vernon has been open for the last 13 years.

The independently-owned restaurant is known for serving sophisticated dishes, and  appeared on "Bizarre Foods" on the Travel Channel and in the New York Times.

"Guests have been amazing," said owner and chef Matt Steigerwald. "I've had a huge response. People have been really really happy to come in one last time, and they've been very very sweet as well."

Steigerwald says the cafe was sold to new owners.

He will continue to manage the Lincoln Wine Bar a few doors down from the Lincoln Cafe.
